439 STAINLESS STEEL TUBE

439 stainless steel tube

439 stainless steel tube, also known as 1.4510, is a ferritic alloy with 17-19% chromium, offering better corrosion resistance than many ferritic types. Titanium content stabilizes the alloy, enhancing intergranular corrosion resistance and weldability, preventing chromium carbide formation. It's particularly suited for high-temperature applications like automotive exhaust systems due to its oxidation resistance. 439 stainless steel also provides various finishes for aesthetic versatility and maintains a clean surface, making it ideal for kitchen appliances and other hygiene-sensitive settings.

439 stainless steel tube FAQ

439 stainless steel tube offers better corrosion resistance than 430 due to its higher chromium content, attributed to the presence of titanium. It is also slightly more magnetic owing to a marginally higher nickel content. Both 439 and 430 share comparable heat resistance, enduring temperatures up to 815°C (1500°F). However, 439 is less hard than 430 due to its lower carbon content. In terms of cost, 439 is significantly more expensive, primarily because of its increased chromium content.
Like other 400 grade stainless steel, 439 is magnetic because of its iron content. And it is relatively high magnetic in the 400-series stainless steel.
439 has good high-temperature properties, with oxidation resistance up to about 1500°F (816°C). It is suitable for many applications that do not involve high-corrosive environments.
439 stainless steel tube can be readily formed and machined. It has a lower overall work hardening rate than austenitic stainless steels, making it easier to form with less power required.
It is EN 1.4510.
439 stainless steel tube is a ferritic alloy with low nickel (max 0.5%) and higher chromium (17-19%) levels, plus stabilizers like titanium to enhance weldability and formability. In contrast, 304 is an austenitic stainless steel with higher nickel (8-11%) and chromium (18-20%) content, ensuring excellent corrosion resistance and a non-magnetic state when annealed. Although 439 has good corrosion resistance and excels in pitting and crevice corrosion resistance in some environments, it's generally less corrosion-resistant than 304 due to lower nickel content. 304's corrosion resistance is superior, especially against acidic substances, making it a preferred material in the food industry. The choice between 439 and 304 depends on specific environmental demands, required performance, and budget.
439 is a low-nickel (max 0.5%) ferritic alloy with 17-19% chromium, often with added titanium or niobium for better weldability and formability. In contrast, 316L is an austenitic alloy with 10-15% nickel, 16-18% chromium, and 2-3% molybdenum, which greatly boosts its corrosion resistance, particularly against chlorides and industrial solvents. While 439 has good oxidation resistance suitable for exhaust systems and high-temperature applications, 316L excels in combating pitting and crevice corrosion in chloride and acidic environments. Cost-wise, 439 is more economical with a high-quality finish but lower corrosion resistance than 316L, which 316L is pricier but offers superior durability in harsh conditions. The choice between them depends on the environmental demands, performance needs, and budget of the project.
